Page Rank

Postby NoviceAmateurs » Wed Oct 28, 2015 5:24 pm

Okay, I'm sure I'm not the first person in the world to be looking at PR:0 for the last 2 years? Right? Or am I? I've read everything online about it taking a long time to increase your page rank and it is only updated a few times a year randomly.

How I see it:
1) My domain was registered over 2.5 years ago, I know that's not a huge time in terms of domain trust but I don't think that it's that short either.

2) I like to think the quality of my website is better than most of these other amateur websites out there who use shady tactics and blindly redirect you to endless traffic exchange loops. There are literally sites with no real content, only thumbs that link you elsewhere and half the time they send you to random websites to meet link exchange ratios rather than sending you to the real site with the real content.

3) I have more traffic and better Alexa rankings (before you say it, yes I know Alexa isn't a true measure, but it's good enough for the purposes of this conversation) than a lot of sites with higher page ranks. 45.8% of my traffic is Organic Search, 32.1% is referral, 20% direct, 2.1% social according to analytics. Clearly I could work on social traffic a bit but it's hard to get considering most social networks are against porn.

4) No issues presented in Google Webmaster Tools

So I guess I have a couple of questions for you guys:
1) Is there something blatantly obvious that I'm doing wrong here with my website? What can I do better?

2) Does Google actually care that all these other websites actually have zero valuable content and just blindly redirect people? I've looked up some of these websites before and a lot of them are all page rank 1 or higher which sickens me when I'm sitting at 0. Many of these websites also show high up in search results for good keywords.

3) The other day I searched a keyword that I use often. How does a Tumblr page full of just pictures and no description what so ever rank higher than me in search results? I was always under the impression that Google actually took a look at written content and actually penalized you if you didn't meet a specific amount of text to html/images.

Just as an example:
I searched a generic keyword for amateur photos and found this website here: http://www.amateurgirlshot.com/

1) My first impression of this website is oh look another website that is going to blindly redirect me to 10 other websites before showing me content.
2) After clicking a few thumbs, sure enough, 50% of the time I was redirected to sites to even their traffic trade ratios and wasn't shown the content I clicked on.
3) This site has PR=1. The only thing I can see that this site has going for it is a domain age of 5 years. My traffic stats are better and my quantity of links in are greater.

Part of me is thinking, well, if you can't beat them, maybe I should just join the blind link revolution and break into the top 100k websites? I'm almost debated to slap one of those websites together in 5 minutes, pull content automatically from RSS feeds and see what happens with it. Hell, maybe I'll create 100 of them with different niche's. They might not be as popular as NoviceAmateurs but Google seems to be proving to me that 100 shit sites would be better than 1 good site.

Bro, Page Rank is dead and gone and has been irrelevant for some time now :)

About "shit" sites ranking highly on google: Remember that google gives newly indexed sites a bonus for some time (The honeymoon period) where it ranks them much higher than normal.
I think that google registers the behavior of the traffic that goes to these sites and see. I think (and I am just guessing here) that if that traffic bounces off very quickly off the site then google knows that the content is not that good?

Anyways, after some time (1 month more or less) these sites get shuffled again according to google's normal methods and get new rankings.

For someone that had #1 rank on google for more than 3 years in my niche I can tell you that it is just amazing to get all this traffic but sooner or later google will change it's mind for some reason or another. Being google's slave is a bitch.

From what I have seen lately, it is more video sites that are ranking highly especially those with self hosted original content (at least when it comes to porn) and most of the time the well established ones.

Also, mobile friendliness and loading speed in my opinion is given a much higher importance than before when google ranks a site.

>> THIS is absolutely true my friend. THIS is the way to go regardless of what google does.
We have been doing this shit wrong: Automation, quantity and traffic circulation is the name of the game.

Personally I cannot do that, I am a perfectionist control freak

Wow, with a quick Google search, the last page rank update was in December 2013, I had no idea this was "dead"! I guess the fact that some people still insist on certain page rank for link trades and that it is still referenced online in some places as being something to consider led me astray. I say "dead" as I'm sure there is some sort of behind the scenes page ranking that Google is still using but it is good to know that this public page rank (if you want to call it that) is dead and will never update.

To be honest, I hate mobile friendly websites that automatically size the content to the size of your screen and doesn't allow you to zoom in or out (some sites). Google spanked me a few months back pretty good for not being mobile friendly and I had to install a mobile plugin to serve up a mobile theme. It's not pretty but it works and they reinstated my search traffic. Only my forum now isn't mobile friendly.

Most of my content acquisition is all automated, I could technically automate the posting process but I haven't as I try to maintain some quality standards. What if the bot grabs shitty pictures or videos? Or worse, what if it grabs something sick/disturbing/non legal.

Thanks coop! Much appreciated buddy, that really helped!

Ha, just noticed that your website states you must match PR for hard link exchange. Just an FYI.

Also, there are some sites that claim to estimate page rank. Based on these sites it says I'd be sitting anywhere between 1-4 depending on the site. So clearly these sites are a load of poo.

Well, one of my websites was created in 2013, but still have page rank 0.
However, page rank nowadays means nothing.
